HOSPITALITY & TOURISM CASE STUDY
Ōpuke Hot Pools & Spa
Set on several acres of land only a few hundred metres from the centre of Methven is the award winning Opuke Hot Pools and Spa. The complex consists of a main building including reception changing facilities, spa, bar and restaurant.
This leads to a family pool area with wild river, jump pool and the pools run through caves. A separate adult pool with swim up access to the bar and again caves a lazy river make this one of the top attractions within the South Island.
To support these facilities design and construction of a large solar field, plantroom, lake, back up HVAC systems, landscaping and carparking were sequenced and split into six separate construction contracts.
The project took three years from the preliminary design of the concept to opening the doors. With a construction period on site of eighteen months.
Methven Adventures Ltd, the client wanted to ensure that the locally community benefited where possible from the construction with a local builder based out of Ashburton being awarded the contract for the main building. The pool hydraulics and solar system were installed by a local irrigation company and all the civil work, landscaping and planting was undertaken by companies based in the Methven area.
Services supplied to the contract were from the procurement of services consultants, pre-construction design management, valued engineering and buildability, through compliance and full programming and construction management to completion.
Project value $19 million, project duration three years.
The project management of this project was undertaken by Richard whilst working for a Christchurch based PMO.
